Step 1 of 5 · Turn on combiningOpen Settings and switch on Find orders that can ship together. Choose how many hours apart orders can be and what counts as the same customer.

Before you start

  • Your Shopify shipping setup (Shopify Shipping or any app that marks orders fulfilled in Shopify)
  • How long after ordering customers may change an order
  • Order tags you already use, like VIP or wholesale, if any

Setup steps

  1. Install ORDRS and choose a plan

    Apps › ORDRS › Plans

Install the app and approve its permissions. Free covers combine suggestions, 25 manual combines and 25 customer changes a month. Growth adds automatic combining, the hold window and duplicate shipping refunds, with a 14-day trial.

  2. Turn on combining

    ORDRS › Settings › Combining

Switch on Find orders that can ship together. Set how many hours apart orders can be placed, what counts as the same customer, and whether to include only paid orders. Add tags that should never be combined, like wholesale.

Start with a 24-hour window. Most repeat orders from the same customer arrive within a day.
  3. Set a hold window (Growth)

ORDRS › Settings › Hold new orders

Turn on Hold new orders for a short time before they can ship and set the minutes. Customers get time to add an item or fix a mistake before anyone packs the box. Add tags that should skip the hold.

  4. Ship combined orders

    ORDRS › Combine orders

Customers with orders that can ship together appear under Ready to combine. Click Combine, then ship the oldest order as usual in Shopify and buy one label. Within a minute ORDRS marks the other orders shipped with the same tracking.

    • On Growth, turn on Refund duplicate shipping automatically to refund shipping paid on the later orders.
    • Optionally email the customer that their orders will ship together.
  5. Let customers change their own orders

    ORDRS › Customer changes

Turn on Let customers change their own orders and choose what they can change: shipping address (same country), email and phone, size or color, and quantities. Set how many minutes after ordering changes are allowed. On Growth, customers can also cancel; choose whether cancellations are refunded to the original payment or store credit.

  6. Link the change page from your order email

Settings › Notifications › Order confirmation › Edit code

Copy the snippet from Customer changes and paste it into your order confirmation email, for example under the order summary. The link opens straight to the order. Logged-in customers can also reach the page from their account, and you can add it to your store menu.

  7. Add rules

    ORDRS › Rules & alerts

Start from an example such as Tag VIP orders over $200, Tag first orders or Hold high-risk orders. Each rule has conditions (order total, tags, discount code, shipping country, SKU, fraud risk and more) and actions: tag, hold or alert. A hold of 0 hours lasts until you release it.

  8. Choose where alerts go

    ORDRS › Settings › Alerts

Add the email addresses that should get rule alerts (Growth). On Pro, paste a Slack webhook URL to post alerts to a channel.

After setup

  • Check Holds each morning for orders waiting on a rule.
  • Review the activity log on the Home page to see every combine, change and hold.
  • On Pro, check savings analytics to see shipping saved by combining.

Troubleshooting

Orders I expected aren't suggested for combining.

Check the hours window, the Only paid orders setting and any never-combine tags in Settings, then click Sync recent orders on the Combine orders page.

A customer says the change link has expired.

Changes are only allowed for the number of minutes you set under Customer changes. Increase it, or make the change for them in Shopify.

An order is stuck on hold.

Rule holds set to 0 hours last until released. Open Holds and release the order, or edit the rule's hold time.
